Mother: Harriet Maria GILKS (16/11/1854 - 1919)

Ernest gave his occupation as Farmer when he enlisted 5 December 1914 at Lismore and his next of kin his father Joseph Butler of Corndale via Lismore, NSW.

He served in the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment 1st Light Horse Brigade. He departed Brisbane on the 'Itria' 9 February 1915.

Trooper Ernest Rupert BUTLER died of wounds received in action at Gaba Tepe Gallipoli, Turkey on 16 May 1915 age 23.
